Tutorial: Easy Pillow From A Skirt

We just got back from the annual polygraph seminar at Orange Beach yesterday.  I spent four days of doing absolutely nothing but eating seafood, junking, and watching the waves roll in and out.
Speaking of junking, I was very disappointed in what Gulf Shores had to offer - when the Salvation Army is half full of big heavy brand new imported from China furniture, something is wrong! I found very few nice vintage pieces and when I did they were outrageously priced.
I did drive to Pensacola where I discovered several nice antique malls and made my only two purchases of the trip. I picked up a can of Fiddes and Sons wax  and from the same mall I found a wonderful old blue and white platter to hang on my wall in our den.
I will share my platter and a few more recent junk buys next week at some parties.

For now enjoy this pillow tutorial that is really easy, cheap, and fast!!!

This was truly one of the easiest and
fastest pillows I have ever made.

I found this button front linen skirt at a thrift store...
                                 for cheap!!!

The fabric is wonderful
wish I knew where to find more
I would love curtains out of this

Hated to cut up such a nice skirt
Well, not really!

Turn skirt inside out with button front up
Trace pillow form onto skirt

I always square up my tracing before I sew

Stitch through both skirt layers around your tracing

I use a stitch that combines a zigzag with a straight stitch

Trim close to your stitch line
clip corners diagonally

Turn right side out through the button opening

 Press cover

Insert pillow form and button her up

I love it - got to look for more button up skirts!

Hey, be sure to let me know if you make one. I would love to see it and share it here.

  1. Very pretty, Rhonda! What a great idea. I could see a few of these so you could change them out easily as the mood hits. I think I'll be looking for some button up skirts, too!
