Dining Room Reveal

I consider this makeover a successful one.  Once I gave up on the idea of slipcovering every single thing in the room to force the Shabby Chic look,  I started working with the room and it was so easy.
I brought down my old navy velvet wing chair, the one that I purchased in 1982, and she just brought the room to life.  I grabbed a  pillow made from an antique rug off of a shelf in the laundry room and dressed her up some. That old girl still has it!!!
There are still some things to do before I consider the dining room makeover officially finished, but I am close enough to show it off.
I will explain some of the finishes, window treatment makeovers, etc. in upcoming makeover posts.
Next, I am taking a deep breath and gearing up to make the slipcovers for the dining room chairs.
***************
My goal was to deformalize this room.  I think that I achieved that by adding the bamboo blinds behind the very formal curtains – adding three vintage pieces of furniture for storage, and using  the ruffled tablecloth that I made from a drop cloth and a bed sheet!!!

This vintage tea cart certainly lends a casual element to the dining room
as did giving the decorative mirrors a milk paint finish

More on the mirror makeovers to follow –
lovin’ them so much better now

Creating this piece was one of my favorite projects
Can’t wait to share more about it’s makeover
This photo was taken from the end of the room looking  back into the foyer

I have many more things I want to share about the dining room makeover.
I sure hope y’all don’t get too bored with it!

  11. Lovely room. Love the chair! What I did to create a more shabby look in my home was to paint my china and buffet and the chairs cottage white. I'm so glad that I did I love it. Your china would be stunning painted white. You can check out the archives on my blog to see my diningroom. It's my favorite room in the house.

  13. Hi there! I'm cracking up because I have almost the identical dining room set and I am trying to de-formalize my space as well! :-) I love all things traditional though so I realized the same thing...I needed to work with the space and not against it! Yours is absolutely beyond gorgeous and all of the rich textures and colors are right up my alley. I'm your newest follower!
