Is there anyone out there who doesn’t have, or know someone who has a vintage wooden cheese server? You know, the ones that have come out of the woodwork since the cloche thing burst onto the scene.
I picked a couple up in the last year for about $6.00 dollars each. I have stared at them and tried to dream about them and I just couldn’t come up with a way to update them.
So, yesterday, I just started ‘messing’ with one of them. I looked over and saw a glass container full of sea glass. That was when I finally had a real plan.
See…you have one don’t you?
I forced the metal cover off and painted it
I planned my pattern on the base while the paint dried.
I used Aleene’s Clear Gel Tacky Glue (dries clear).
I will grout it later.
I painted the base with acrylics – aqua for the base – white washed it – aged the corners.
Cute…but now what?
I love playing dress up!
I grabbed shells and vintage jewelry…
and the adorable shot glasses with the painted dogwood blossoms.
The beaded candleholder has one of those fake candles in it for obvious reasons!
I suppose you could use a food safe finish (I know you can buy a food safe wax) and use it for serving. Besides that, I guess it will just serve as a decorative accessory.

ReplyDeleteI love this!! It's a fabulous project...but I could cry. I threw mine out about a year ago because I hardly used it and it took up space! Oh, I'd love to make this. Maybe the next time I see one I will grab it. I love the aqua blue shades and all of your pretty embellishments. Super job!! :-)

ReplyDeleteGreat idea, Rhonda! I have a cheese dome with the marble base. Just realized about a month ago that I could use it as a cloche {since I'm not using it for cheese}!

ReplyDeleterhonda, that is a very clever idea, I see these at GW all the time. I buy the wooden ones because I use them for entertaining but have passed many because of the dated motif, now you have shown us a way to hide it, I am impressed,Kathysue
