Guest Bedroom…More of the Transformation!!

I hope that you are not getting tired of my guest room make-over posts because there's even more after this!!!

I could not find anything to look right over the bed. I tried small things in groups of three and then five…I tried a long mirror…I left it empty…I destroyed a gorgeous mirror to use the decorative wire topper…nothing felt right! Until, I found this wonderful piece. It was made from a crusty old panel of wood. It was so crusty that it was shedding tiny little flakes of paint. I didn’t want to have lead paint falling onto my sleeping guests head, so I reluctantly brushed off the loose paint. It doesn’t look nearly as shabby as it did, but I still love it and I will have no guilt when company is here.

This little side table is really old. It looks like heart pine??? The left side had some water damage. I rebuilt it!! I love my power tools!!!!! G-Man sanded the top down to raw wood. I applied one coat of maple stain which added some much needed warmth. The original wooden knob was too cute to change.

I purchased the metal plate at MOMA in New York City. I have had the lamp for many years. I did tone down the gold fruit and base with some glaze. I am using a vintage mirror as a tray on the bottom shelf. It holds a cherub and marble candleholder, some shells, and a small photo of Alex.

I shared this sweet lamp, rose painting, and towel stand in an earlier post. This is on the right side of the bed. I’ve had this French style night stand for ages. I purchased it unfinished and it remained that way until this make-over. I wanted to keep the look light, so I used the same maple stain plus some white to soften it. Because the table is so small, I only added a scripture book and a crystal candleholder.

I knew that I would be keeping the vintage lamp on the left. I am pleased that the cherub lamp on the right is the same scale. After putting her on a pedestal that I finished to match, and topping them with matching shades from Target, I think they compliment each other nicely.

I got the needlepoint rug on E-Bay for $25.00. I love it.

The windows got new window dressings. I had purchased a huge bolt of this satiny blue fabric from a discount house several years ago. I didn’t like the shiny side, so I made these panels using the wrong side. I like the matte finish much better.

These chairs came to me with a lot of planning and help!!! When I was visiting a niece in Clearwater, Fl., we went to a going out of business sale at a “Norwalk “ furniture store. I fell in love with them immediately! Unfortunately, I had to leave them behind as they wouldn’t fit in the overhead compartment of the plane. I left them in the store with a heavy heart!!!!! I returned home and I just couldn’t get them out of my mind. A week later, I called the store – they still had them – I purchased them over the phone with a credit card – niece picked them up ( I am forever grateful, Timma!) and kept them at her house. She graciously packed them in her vehicle on her next trip here. Some things are just meant to be!!!

I realize that the right end of this window wall is crowded. I originally had a very small round table to the right of this chair. There wasn’t any place for the sweet night stand that matched the bedroom suite. It is just so darn cute. I decided to turn it sideways and place it against the wall.

I was able to use this painting of a young woman in an orchard, holding fruit in her apron. The frame was originally gold, but I shabbied it up with cream paint to use in this room.

The white iron vintage frames hold my beloved photos of my parents as children. I had copies made in black and white and hand colored them.

The little metal jewelry box was a flea market find.

I love, love , love this painting! This young girls face is so pretty. I can’t believe it took me so long to lighten the frame. I have had her for 10 years. It looks so much better this way.

I hope to finish the reveal in one more post. I will do several before and after posts on some of the projects that transformed this room.

I am joining “Met Monday” at “Between Naps On The Porch”. Thanks Susan for graciously hosting this every week.

I really appreciate every one of my readers. Please, leave a message for me. They make blogging a lot more exciting.
