A Tour of Caroline's College Apartment
This is Caroline, aka Peanut!
She is smiling because she loves her new apartment.
She can "legally" have her dog with her now. Not that there was anything illegal going on at the other place!!!
She can walk to her classes AND to ballgames.(No more transit...woo hoo!)
She has a real kitchen. The "Little Tykes" orange and yellow kitchen that she had growing up was larger than the kitchen in her last apartment.
She has a laundry room!!!
______________________________________________
This is Maybelle. She is Caroline's pound/hound dog - she is half beagle and half giraffe. She has the longest legs I have ever seen on a dog.
Al started calling her Cousin Maybelle since she is Bella's and Harley's cousin!
I called her Draper when she was a baby because those spaghetti noodle legs just draped everywhere!! Al's nickname stuck. So, Cousin Maybelle it is!
She is the best little hillbilly dog a girl could have.
They are crazy about each other.

Go ahead and see if you can trace those legs to where they originate!!!

ON TO THE COLLEGE APARTMENT TOUR
If I could come up with a name for Caroline's style, it would be Boho Modern...with a twist of vintage and whimsy! Comfort is also very important to her.

BEFORE:
Al and I drove by the apartments before the move-in date and the painters happened to be in her unit. We were able to get some photos.

Nice laundry area. Her last apt. didn't even have a space for a washer and dryer

AFTER:
DEN/DINING AREA:
The den area isn't very large, but it is cozy. She bought a neutral hemmed carpet remnant for $30.00 to anchor the area.
The sofa is from Ashley - the throw pillows from World Market.
The mandatory papisan chair is also from World Market.
The tv stand is from Target.
The super cute end table is a distressed wooden box on a metal stand that I got when Faux Biz closed.
The lamp is a hand me down from moi!
The prints over the sofa are transfers on unframed canvas. These were extremely inexpensive from a local shop. All three were less than $30.00!

We all know that anyone can be a great writer if your face is finely chiseled enough, your pen is long enough, and if you have a glass of Deniset to sip.
_________________________________________
This one is cute, even though I have no idea what she is doing.
_____________________________________________
I wonder what the little green man is up too? He looks suspicious to me!

She thinks the little green man is suspicious looking too!

This corner is lovely. I love how she accessorized it.
The Cuba girl print was the first art she bought when she left for college.

Kroger had a dozen roses for $10.99. Caro and I both love these yellow ones with pretty pink edges, so we bought a dozen and split them.
____________________________________________
There is room for her dining set at the front of the living area. It sits in front of the big picture window. It came from a local furniture store.
The curtains came from TJ Maxx.
The hippy style tablecloth is a cotton tapestry that she got on a Florida trip.
___________________________________________
There was just enough room at the front door to hang these hooks for easy access to keys and leashes.
_____________________________________________
KITCHEN:
She is actually cooking a lot in her "real" kitchen.
The small bar area is just the right size for one.
___________________________________________
A simple cross hangs on the kitchen wall.
***It is such a blessing to know that both of our children know the Lord.***
______________________________________________
These bright glasses provide a spot of color to the monochromatic kitchen
____________________________________________
She picked this up at an outlet in Boaz. Some of the stones were a weird blue color which she disliked. When she asked me where I kept the gold leaf sheets, I knew that 'the apple didn't fall far from the tree'!!! _____________________________________________
Cute sign above her stove...and a real stove too, not an easy bake oven on the counter. Yea!!!!
_______________________________________________
BEDROOM:
The headboard and the comforter came from World Market.
__________________________________________
Alex, my oldest daugther, painted these tiger eyes for her sister.
She is a really talented artist. I am working on a post of some of her art.
____________________________________________
The monogrammed throw was a gift from a friend.

T.V. corner of the bedroom
The black chest is a loaner from home.
_____________________________________________
We lucked out with this mirror. It's very heavy wood with beveled glass. It was marked down to $40.00 at Lowes...Score!
The little table leaves something to be desired. She is just using that until we can find a bookcase that is low enought to also be used as a bedside table surface.
________________________________________________
Just a few of Caro's favorite shoes in a leopard shoe bag.
I guess a girl can't have too many shoes. She and Alex both L-O-V-E them some shoes!
____________________________________________
Caroline, do you have a height issue, enjoy pain, hope for a broken ankle so you can miss class??? ((((("Hep-it"!!!))))
__________________________________________
She has these framed butterflies hanging between her closet and the bathroom. I bought this so that I didn't have to feel guilty for not letting her have my butterflies!!
________________________________________
BATHROOM:
The bathroom is divided. The vanity area is right off of her bedroom with a room to the left that houses the tub and toilet. The laundry room is opposite that, on the right.
______________________________________________
Caro salvaged this glass shelf from one of those over-the-toilet stands that she had in her first apartment. I had these iron brackets. We anchored them to the wall and used those little clear dots between the metal and glass. It turned out pretty good.
_________________________________________
She came up with this necklace idea. She used those monkey hooks. How smart and easy was that?
The hand was a TJ Maxx find. It was purple with an ugly design. I spray painted it white for her. Much better.

Hello Rhonda,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great job she did in her apartment. I've really enjoyed your blog. Thanks for such a lovely comment you left me. I can honestly say I am completely finished in the guest room now. I've just posted the finishing touch. Check it out. You asked in your comment about how I got my insert puffy, I used a mattress egg crate foam. That was cheaper than anything else I priced. I measured my opening and cut the foam the exact size as my opening. I think all total I had 3 foam pieces. I sprayed adhesive on the board and layered the foam, spraying adhesive on each layer. I then covered the whole board with the fabric. I used a heavy duty staple gun to hold the fabric. Good luck with your mantle headboard and let me know how it goes. If you need any other help, please let me know.
Gail
Isn't fun to see our girls when they begin to "nest"?!! Her apartment is darling and your other daughter is indeed a talented artist. Can't wait to see more.ps I wander over from lady Katherine's --I am originally a MS girl too!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! That is definitely NOT what my living arrangements looked like in college. I had a teeny tiny cinder block room and a common bathroom - and that was just a few years ago! I would have loved to have an apartment like that. How fun that you got to help decorate it! It looks great!
ReplyDeleteA sweet new apartment for a college student and her pup! All spruced up and ready to go. I love it.
