A Needlepoint Rug At Last!!!

Welcome to another "Today's Thrifty Treasures", hosted by the lovely Rhoda at "Southern Hospitality. It's also time for "Met Monday" over at "Between Naps on The Porch" with Susan.
These ladies are definitely appreciated for all that they do.

This week I am sharing a special find from a couple of weeks ago. There is a thrift store in Auburn that I occasionally visit. For some reason, I got off my intended route and stopped by. And, I am so very glad that I did. Look what I found!!!

I have been wanting a wool needlepoint rug for ages. This baby was hanging right in the front of the store. My heart just about jumped out of my chest when I saw it. I think my hands were shaking as I reached up to check the price!!!

So...the price was $299.00. Should I really spend that much, even though I have been pricing them and I know that it was an incredible deal??? And, after all, I have wanted one for sooooo long!!! OH MY, WHAT TO DO, WHAT TO DO???

I walked away, hoping someone else would buy the thing and get me out of my misery.

But, that didn't happen. So, I asked for assistance to lay it out on the floor (it is really heavy) and the sales person said that a "little old lady" had donated it and told them she had paid $1000.00 for it, but never used it.
It really is in perfect condition and best of all...absolutely no "old house" odor!!! It is happy on my den floor. I love it and Bella and Harley like it a lot too.

I shared these things that I got at Angel's Antiques and Flea Mall when all four of my beloved sisters were here at BCH on Thursday. You can read about the china story here.

Six dinner plates that match the china that belonged to my sweet mother!!! Score!!!

Lovely old basket that will be filled with fall foliage soon...or maybe make a lamp??

Antlers look great in fall arrangements.

And another piece of Wedgwood Jasperware for my collection.

This black iron planter was another purchase from Faux Biz's going out of business sale. I think it was $60.00. These are very expensive at garden centers.
I can't decide if I want to freshen the paint or leave it as is. It is obviously outdoors, so I'm thinking that I will just let it be.

My Met Monday project: Converting this chest/hutch into a t.v. center in the guest bedroom.

This is the hutch lying sideways on the bed. I thought I was going to pop a shelf out. Nope. That thing was made in 1974 and they had it mortised, and nailed, and pegged, and glued, and stapled!!! I had to break out the hack saw. An hour later, with skinned knuckles, I finally got the shelf out!

Now, there is room for the dvd player and the t.v.

***I am about to do a make-over in the guest room. I have the whole set of this furniture and I think I am going to paint it.
Stay tuned!

  3. Sometimes it's worth paying a little more than what you were hoping for if it's something you really really want. :) That's my opinion, anyways. :) So glad you found one! Thanks for the visit. :)

  14. That rug is wonderful! Which thrift store had that beauty? I'm going to need a rug for my imaginary dining room and would love something like that. One of my buddies got a beautiful rug at Salvation Army near Angels(I never find much there) when she took it to have it cleaned they told her it was worth $1000+ !!! She paid $60!!!!

  15. Hey Rhonda! Conrgrats on your rug! I'm sure it will look great in your home!

As I was reading your post, I realized that we live fairly close to one another. How exciting! Maybe one day we can meet up at Angels and shop together. I think that would be fun.

    Have a great week!

  17. Rhonda, I'm totally drooling over that Aubusson rug! It's similar to the one in our master bedroom (see http://frugalfineliving.blogspot.com/2009/06/metamorphosis-monday-our-romantic.html). However, I like the colors in yours better, specifically the light teal/green background. Wanna trade? JK. :)

Nice planter, too. I'd probably keep it as is. Great finds!

  18. Rhonda,
Your new rug is lovely and has wonderful colors to work with. I laughed reading about your adventure of removing your shelf. Your hard effort was rewarded, because the TV looks great in it.

  21. I'm glad you got your rug. Think how miserable you would be if you went back and it was gone. I looked at a Quoizel lamp a number of years ago. I got it on sale, but it was still 4x more that I would have spent normally. I don't regret it and still love it. Good job on the TV stand.
