How The Grinch (aka Plasma T.V.) Stole My Christmas Mantel

I cut off the right side of this photo on purpose
It shows the Christmas fireplace and
I just can’t bring myself to share it.
WHY???
I gave in and let G-Man put a 52”plasma t.v. above the fireplace !!!
I know, right???  I couldn’t believe it either.
But, I have to say I do love it now that it’s up.
There obviously aren’t as many design possibilities now, but
I am having fun  planning a way to camouflage the cable box
& enjoying shopping for something fun to use on each end
of the mantle and/or hanging on the wall on either side of the t.v.
Oh yeah, the burlap panel on the left -
it is stapled to the wall
The new t.v. meant rearranging the furniture
which also means I need a new rug and new window treatments and
oh goodness if I am dreaming, I would like two matching
slipcovered sofas (the Pottery Barn ones would be perfect) and
two new leather recliners (the ones I saw at Macy’s please)and
a big round upholstered ottoman/coffee table
and French sconces on either side of the t.v.
G-Man…you have created a monster with your big honkin’ plasma t.v., dude!!!

It’s time for a stroll down memory lane
Of Christmas Mantels Past

The t.v. is about the same size as the white architectural
piece that I used as the backdrop for the
2010 Christmas mantel decorations

The t.v. is even BIGGER than the twin headboard
that I used as a backdrop for the  2009 decorations.
OH MY…WHAT HAVE I DONE?
I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can I think…
I think - I can come up with a decent plan for our 2012 Christmas mantel
{ Thank goodness I have a whole year!

I can share more of the Christmas tree

I have one last thing to share with you

Mason  is  so  cute  this  Christmas
He still doesn’t understand what it’s all about
It is so cute to hear him say “Ho Ho Ho” every time he sees
Santa Claus  - in stores, in story books, or on the new BIG t.v.

But,  the thing that takes my breath away is to see
him gently pick up Baby Jesus from the nativity
and give him a kiss before he puts him back.

  1. You are a good woman, Rhonda! I dodged that bullet in the new place, although, I was prepared for it. My hubby decided against it and we put our TV in the sunroom, which required us buying a piece of furniture to put it on. I found that the previous owner had put cuphooks under the mantel which is where I hung my garland this year. Maybe you could do that so you'll be able to decorate a bit and not interfere with the actual TV. Either way, I'm sure you'll come up with something! Merry Christmas!

  4. Gotta do what you gotta do right? It will all be gorgeous when you get it all "done"! We are getting a flat screen after Christmas, but it isn't going over the mantel...I would have to do tooooooo much rearranging. I am looking for a dresser or buffet or SOMETHING to put it on....so I am just about in your boat!!

LOVE Mason with the baby Jesus....SO precious!

Hope you have a FABULOUS Christmas!!

  6. What a sweet picture of Mason and Santa. Your tree and ornaments are so pretty. One thing leads to another doesn't it. I'm excited to be planning some new decorating and new furniture this year. Loved the 2010 mantle and the headboard. Nice. Hope you all have a Merry Christmas. Enjoy your sweet family.
