Beautiful Antique Mirror

Hello friends!  I paid a visit to my favorite thrift store last week and as usual, I found a jewel of a deal.  I spied this mirror from a distance and I knew it was going to be a prize.  What worried me was the price!  I have seen this kind of mirror for $100.00 +.  Holding my breath, I fumbled at the tag ... I could not believe my eyes!!!  $15.00 and my sweet friend let me have it for $12.00 because he had chipped the corner himself when he was hanging it up.  This bad boy measures 27" x 13 1/2 and it weighs a ton!  I am so thrilled with this weeks treasure.  The store owner was taking his van and following the longest yard sale this week end.  I am going early next week to see what kind of treasures he found there.

I am crazy over this old mirror!!!

It has everything a mirror could ever want...
*ornately carved gesso/wood frame
* perfectly patinated gold/silver gilt finish
* beveled edges  -  arched top & bottom
* wreath/swag design etched  across the top

BE STILL MY HEART!!!

Love, love, love the little decorative buttons

It would have been easy to over design  the top
but it was simply and beautifully done

The bottom design is the same

The frame has aged gracefully-
there are small areas of loss
which doesn't bother me

Deeply carved buttons along each side
have a powdery silver toned finish

The gesso finish is apparent in this close up photo

I was glad to see the backing was still intact...

and complete with the manufacturers label
