Dining Room Furniture Makeover

NO…I didn’t convince G-Man to let me paint the dining room furniture - I gave up on that. This is a paint finish I did on a chest that I am using in the dining room.
The room is almost complete and I promise that I will never do a makeover on another room ever for at least a month!!!  I know myself well enough to know that I will be knee deep in something else soon.
This is an old vintage, four drawer chest that I got at an antique mall after Christmas.  It had been in one of the rooms at the old Hotel Talasi.  I cleaned it up and got busy yesterday giving it a fresh finish for the dining room”s new look.

It looks great with the rug
G-Man and the girls love the blue.

The wood was pretty but it was scratched and stained badly.
I was going to use the bottle of blue acrylic paint in the photo,
but I found a quart of ‘oops’ paint at Benjamin Moore that I liked better.

I like the look of a wood tone top on a painted piece of furniture
so I waxed it with Briwax in a darker color and then buffed it until my arm fell off!

Before waxing - amazing difference!!!

I might as well show you this section of the dining room.
I hope to have the rest of it up over the weekend.

  3. Wow, this looks terrific. I'm in the process of having a storage cabinet made for our sun porch, and I plan to have a pine top and painted cabinet. This is great inspiration. Love the look! ~ Sarah

  5. Hi Rhonda...

Ohhh yes!!! What a gorgeous piece, my friend! You did GOOD!!! I love the blue color that you chose and I also love that you left the top in the wood finish! It really did turn out pretty! Can't believe how much difference the wax makes. I have never used it on any of my furniture projects...not that I have done many. I really do like the look that the wax gives to the piece. Did you also use it over the blue paint?

Girlfriend, your vignette is sooo pretty! Ohhh...if this is a prelude to what is to come...I am sooo excited to see! Can't wait...hurry up and finish that dining room, dear lady! Hehe! Thanks for sharing your new dining room cabinet...simply fabulous!!!

    Warmest spring wishes,
    Chari

  7. Beautiful job Rhonda and I love that it came out of Hotel Talasi....is that where you got it? We've had many good meals at that wonderful old hotel, what a shame it burned.

    Hope you are doing well!

  10. Oh I love your chest, the color is fabulous. Isn't Briwax the greatest stuff in the whole world. It seems to cover a ton of sins and just makes everything look fabulous. You did a great job with the finish. LOVE your vignette. It is beautiful and so is the painting you have hanging over the chest. I can't wait to see the rest of the room. I know it will be stunning. Hugs, Marty
