Goodbye Fall

It was a humid,  75 degree day here in Central Alabama. The promise of rain on Thanksgiving day was supposed to bring in the cold…Again.  But, now the forecasters are saying it will be Friday before that happens!  Then, with days in the 50’s, I can actually enjoy decorating the house for Christmas.

G Man and I took advantage of the warm temperatures last week and drove up to Cheaha State Park.  We usually take our Chihuahuas and spend the night in a cabin, but this year we did a day trip without the dogs.

We had the whole day ahead of us.

We pulled off the road to take pictures on the way up the mountain…

…Again

…And again!

These next photographs were taken from left to right since I don’t have a panorama mode!

I would be nervous!

You will find me behind the safety fence!

This is the exterior of the restaurant.

Stones from the property was used for most of the buildings.

Inside is more gorgeous stone work.

Compare the chandelier size to the size of the table and chairs below it and…

…you will see how HUGE this antler chandelier is.

It is absolutely awesome!

This big guy escaped being eaten for Thanksgiving dinner, but he still wasn’t real lucky!!!

A little farther up the mountain is this most incredible building.

Looking out the front door from inside the second room

I think this would be the perfect venue for a very small wedding.

Looking up at the underside of the staircase leading to the top.

I’m sure I missed a great view, but I didn’t go – my knees begged me not too!

Coming back down the mountain, we passed this dried up waterfall.

Last year it was running full force and it was beautiful!

I couldn’t get this close to Apple Barrel Antiques in Anniston and not stop!

This booth is huge -

…filled to the brim with beautiful whites -

…and sprinkled with pretty pastel accessories.

On the way home, we passed this tree farm.  They look like babies – must be for next year.

We enjoyed our day together, but it’s always nice to get back to Blue Creek Home.

  5. For the past two years we have gone to Cullman & Decatur for a few days to enjoy the fall colors, drive down back roads and stop wherever, whenever. I think next year we'll make Cheaha our destination. And since my sister lives in Talladega, I believe I see a road trip to Apple Barrel Antiques in Anniston in the near future.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  9. Rhonda,
This looks like a must do for Mr.CC and I...thanks for sharing your beautiful pics. I'm with you about going out on that rock...it would be behind the fence for me too!!!! Hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday at Blue Creek Home. We were offered tickets to the game (in the Auburn section)but I think we are going to pass them up, since the weather is calling for 80% rain and high only 53...cold rain is sooooo not me! Enjoy the game and WAR EAGLE!!!!!

    Blessings,
    Linda

  13. Rhonda,

I was sure I posted a comment here. More words lost in space!
The scenery is breathtaking. I agree with you that the stone building with make a perfect venue for an intimate wedding. I can just imagine the room filled with white candles, the light glowing and reflecting off the stone walls.
The shop is my kind of place and one I could easily get lost in while on a treasure hunt!
I must get to Alabama one day.

    Your Friend,
    Deborah
