A ‘Shabby Cheap’ Christmas Vignette

All I have done lately is decorate, decorate, decorate!   Don’t get me wrong.  I love Christmas and I had fun decorating.  I genuinely enjoy the process.  But, I found myself needing a  crafting ‘fix’ this afternoon.
I started looking around the house in search of something to use for a quick craft project.
I was in the mood for something shabby, white, and romantic but cheap, easy, and quick. And it would be great if it could be incorporated into the Christmas decorations.

I had a white sugar bowl with had a cracked lid.
I had lots of used coffee filters that I was saving to make some complicated looking roses.
I had lots of sea shells, glitter, and pink grosgrain ribbon.
I had grapevines.
And I had just scored the last two bottle brush wreaths at the local Big Lots for $7.00 each.

This is the results:

It really doesn’t take much to create something really pretty from next to nothing!

These roses are obviously not the ones that require cutting and shaping the individual petals.  I simply folded the filter in half and started rolling from one end. About 1/3 of the way, I started turning the edges outward and rolling looser while bunching and pleating the stem to shape it as I went.  I secured them with fabric covered wire.  I made the leaves just like you make ribbon leaves.
They are not perfect. In fact, one of them has a double center!!  But, I had fun and it satisfied my craft craving!

  6. Rhonda,
Who would have thought to make roses from coffee filters...sadly, we have one of those "permanent" plastic and mesh filters, which no matter how hard I tried, wouldn't fold into a rose (didn't really, just kidding)...I do love to make them from silk ribbons, though...
    You did a great job.
